Lions Municipal Golf Course, commonly known as “Muny”, is a historic public golf course located in Central Austin, Texas. The course features an 18-hole, par-71 championship layout known for mature oak trees, rolling fairways, classic golf architecture, and deep connections to Texas golf history.
Originally opened in 1924, Lions Municipal was Austin’s first public golf course and remains one of the city’s most beloved recreational landmarks. The course occupies part of the historic Brackenridge Tract near downtown Austin and the University of Texas campus.
Lions Municipal Golf Course also holds important civil rights significance as the first desegregated municipal golf course in the American South. Over the decades, the course has hosted legendary players including Ben Hogan, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, Byron Nelson, and Harvey Penick.
